/Molecular Structures
& Geometry
For students to learn the properties and rules of or molecular structures. They will use their knowledge in chemical bonding to draw Lewis Structures of the molecular compounds. The students will then be able to determine the molecular geometry of the compound from the Lewis Structure.
Unit Overview

In this lesson, I have learned how to construct molecular structures and how to read each structure correctly. I also learn the steps to the Lewis Structure and the Electron Dot Notation.
Personal Achievement
Chemical Bond- Mutual electrical attraction between the nuclei and valence electrons of different atoms that binds the atoms together
Types of Chemical Bonding:
-
Nonpolar- Covalent Bond
-
bonding electrons are equally attracted to both
bonded items -
Electronegativity between 0-0.3
-
-
Polar Covalent Bond
-
bonding electrons shared between two atoms are
held more closely by one atom -
Electronegativity between 0.3-1.7
-
-
Ionic Bond
-
bonding electrons are equally“owned” by both atoms
-
Electronegativity between 1.7-3.3
-
Enduring Understanding

STRENGTH:
Demonstrates understanding of scientific investigation and chemical bonds
REASON:
Since our class does many examples, I am pretty confident understanding the investigation and constrcting chemical bonds.
AREA OF IMPROVEMENT:
Applies computational thinking to molecular compounds
Plan to Improve:
Reflection on Standards
Evidence of Work

Candy Lab
I was not here for this lab. This lab was done by a classmate. As I can see, M&Ms represented the left over electrons and the pretzel sticks represents the electron pairs.
