/Macbeth
In this quarter, we focused on reading and understanding Shakespeare’s Macbeth. At the beginning we read each act, with the help of Sparknotes’ No Fear Shakespeare in order to further understand Shakespearean language. Reading the play was my favorite out of all, since I like to learn Shakespearean language. I like to go in depth in the author’s craft and see how creative people in the world can be. After we read the entire play, we read about the play’s historical background. We also took reading comprehension and analysis tests for each act. To help the class to remember the imagery included in the play, Ms. Kelly assigned us a collage. Furthermore, we each were given a monologue which we had to orally present in front of the class. This assignment helped us to understand the character’s emotion as they speak. After all the fun, we engaged in creative writing by writing a letter from a different character’s perspective. Finally, we had a debate on who is more evil, Lady Macbeth or Macbeth. Since our class is very competitive, each team put in the best effort. I really liked this activity because it makes us think beyond what the play gives us.
Overview
As far as my writing, reading, and speaking goes, I am looking forward to being a part of AP English class next year. Being accepted to join the AP English course that is offered in Berkeley is a privilege yet I’m going to have to face many challenges. I can use this opportunity to improve on my vocabulary and essay writing skills. I would also like to improve on my debate skills, by being more confident with the information provided and going beyond the surface. I love to be faced with challenges. If I had an option, I would want to read more Shakespeare or any classic literature. I believe that reading more classic novels, filled with hard vocabulary would help me to improve on my essay skills and reading comprehension.
