/Stoichiometry

For students to learn the process and understand stoichiometry. They will understand how mole ratio relates to chemical equations. The students will be able to balance a chemical equation and then use the balanced equations to find amounts of certain chemical compounds.

Unit Overview

I am proud of how fast I could understand the pattern being used in mole ratio. By the end of the second day of practicing, I could solve stoichiometry all by myself.

Personal Achievement

Stoichiometry involve the relationship between reactants and products, in order to determine quantitative data. Reactants (left side) and products (right side) are needed to have the same amount of atoms by raising coefficients. Every chemical reaction has the same elements in its reactants and products, though the elements they are paired up with often change in a reaction.

Enduring Understanding

STRENGTH:

Demonstrates the understanding of stoichiometry

Reason:

I can show and explain to others about how the ratio of the elements work. I am confident enough to be able to help others with this subject, that is why I think that this is my strength.

AREA OF IMPROVEMENT:

Understands and can apply a mole ratio to find the amount of a chemical compound

Plan to Improve:

I can improve by paying more details to my work. I have made the mistake in my work by switching the order of numbers, which leads to the incorrect answer.

Reflection on Standards
Evidence of Work

S'Mores Lab

Other than getting to eat delicious s'mores, we have used this lab to learn more about stoichiometry. In this lab, we have learned that if you are missing one of the main ingredient, you cannot create a complete s’mores. For example, if it is required to have 2 pieces of marshmallow, and you only have one, then you cannot make a s’more. Compare to an original scientific equation, if you are missing a certain element on the reactant side, then you cannot fulfill the product.

Fancy Quiz

Each of us were given a certain question using stoichiometry. We had to solve it individually to show our abilities in understanding this standard.
