    1. Phonology: Listen to, identify and produce the basic sounds of Pinyin(Chinese phonetic alphabet, CPA)

    2. Basic word order

    1. Listening: very limited and brief expression related to food

    2. Speaking: repeat, retell and recite words and sentences learned in class with proper tones

    3. Reading: recognize Pinyin and use Pinyin to locate characters with the help of teacher

    4. Writing: 1) write Pinyin correctly; 2) write basic Chinese characters

  3. Strategies

    1. Cultivate a desire for and an interest in Chinese language

    2. With teacher guidance, learn to use textbooks, pictures, pictionaries and multimedia resources to seek information

  4. Cultural Awareness

  5. Develop interest in Chinese culture

  6. Know the benefits of using different languages locally
