/Poetry of Synthesis
In this unit, we developed the understanding of how authors develop complex characters. My class also did several practices of analyzing two different texts with similar ideas, by connecting these to each other, and as well as to the world. Second quarter was spent looking at different types of poetry and giving personal opinions of how the poetry connects to the larger world. We studied different poetic techniques such as figurative language, imagery, sound devices, and more. As a result, we can support the statements with evidence from the text.
Overview
Poetry can be found anywhere. For example, when you listen to music, when you read Dr.Seuss, or when your friends try to say a certain tongue twister the fastest. I think that poetry is any text or spoken words that expresses feelings and ideas using different poetic devices. Poetry does not always have to rhyme, thats why there is different types of poems, traditional versus organic. In order to gain understanding of the poet's message is difficult for me to understand, becuase of the different uses of figurative language and more. Reading the poem once is not enough for me to fully grasp the message, so I have to read at least three times or more. Also, reading the poem out loud helps me to understand the poet's message.

STRENGTH:
Reading: Identifies and relates the key ideas and details of a written work
REASON:
Most of the written work, I was able to identify and relate key ideas and details of it. Out of reading, writing, and language use, I would say that I am most comfortable with reading.
Reflection on Standards
AREA OF IMPROVEMENT:
Language Use: Demonstrates a command of conventions of standard English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization in writing
Writing: Understands a variety of text types and how they are appropriate for different purposes
Plan to Improve:
I find writing the hardest out of all. But the more I write, the better I get. Not wanting to use any excuses, but it is rather difficult to compare to those who's english is their first language. As years go by, I try to read more books in order to identify the author's word choices. The most difficulty out of the language use that I have is applying the correct grammar in my work.
